General Procedure:

Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia.  A narrow tube or cannula is inserted beneath the skin through a small inconspicuous incision.  Fatty tissue is then loosened and removed by surgical vacuum or a powered suction device.  In many cases, no stitches are required to close the incisions.

There are various liposuction procedures and there have been many recent advancement.  An evaluation of skin tone and elasticity, as well as fat distribution and density helps the doctor determine the appropriate technique for a specific case.

Recovery Process:

Recovery time depends upon the extent of tissue removed.  The incisions for liposuction are small but swelling, numbness soreness, bruising and discomfort in the areas treated is normal.  A compression garment must be worn for several weeks but patients can usually return to light normal activity as soon as they feel ready.
